For those who missed the proper explanations of "Who is Xorn?", and "What happened when Jean came back from the dead (again)?". Xorneto: Link Phoenix: Link Also, a summary of the first issue of "House of M": Link Just click on "WATCH THIS MOVIE!". Simple as that, and enjoyable as well. Bonus: A little Star Wars bit Link since I showed a couple of special guys Episode IV for the first time tonight.
[hat tip to Greyhawk at the Mudville Gazette Link and Smash Link , both of whom have done a better job of this than I could hope to] Perusing CNN for a future understanding of the news I would watch later today in Arabic (always easier to infer a definition of an unknown word if you know the subject matter), I read an article detailing the suicide bombing deaths of fourteen Marines Link . True to CNN's style, they had a second article below that one, with the summary bullets ("in rel...
I'm so glad they're back. Let me look at them... chiprj - Still good for a laugh and a good (long) story. Smash - Enjoy his news recaps. EL - Love ya, babe! greywar - Wish I could visit more. HW - Congrats on your 6 (which I wouldn't've realized was going on if it weren't for life happens) NBS - Wish he had actually done that countdown... Singrdave - Moved on, but not forgotten. Good luck with the house. Talisein - Back to posting friends only. I suppose I'll have t...
I was going to do a little research on the fatwa issued earlier this week by a fair number of cooperating US Islamist groups, but it seems someone has already done a bit of research on it. Link (found through Smash Link , who I really want to put back on my favorites' list once that's back up) Sorry, grey. I'll try and do something insightful later.
Is it safe to blog? I can't really claim that I *definitely* would have, had the site not been down, but I've been composing the beginnings of various entries in my head more often in the past week. Maybe some of them will actually bear fruit. We'll see, I suppose.
First things first: Pre-Hyptnotized Peter What Office Space character are you? brought to you by Quizilla Now that's out of the way... She came home from her two week drill talking about how we had to see the movie, we had it on the shelf still in the plastic, and they were making references to it all weekend. I've been living references to it for just over five years, now. Eight bosses - Not quite eight, but there's the Squad Leader, the Platoon Sergeant, ...
Everything was put off again , until 0600 Tuesday morning. We were set to miss PT, but it would all be over. Of course, at 0040, I received a phone call. I managed to repeat everything that the SSG said aloud, attempting to memorize the new schedule, but it turned out all I had remembered was "go to PT as normal." I opted to call the soldiers in the morning, before they headed out to the flight line (read: I passed out almost immediately). We went to PT "as normal", and I caught up to t...
The detail didn't happen yesterday. We're not sure entirely what the delays are, but it looks like we'll be working tonight. Today and yesterday haven't been too bad, actually, as she was able to come down for part of the weekend. It means that I haven't been sitting by the phone as diligently as I would've, but I haven't missed anything regardless. I suppose I'll do a minor summary tomorrow, assuming that we do work tonight...
Lot less phone calls today. This is mostly because the detail happened almost as planned, this morning. Half the work done, we have been scheduled for the rest of it tomorrow. We'll see if that holds up or not; perhaps I'll get more calls this evening, or tomorrow morning. The Crow is perched in the cupboard, but my friend Jack is here with me watching movies.
This is our first four day weekend in about a year. Most of the unit is good to go; I volunteered for a detail so that no one had to be assigned it. I also have five soldiers assigned underneath me for this. My day thus far has been fielding phone calls from the SSG in charge overall, who will continue to relay the updated times for us to show up. 1400 today has been put off, and still I wait by the phone. But the most recent call is perplexing. SFC C - Hey SGT pseudosoldier, sorry to...
Tonight I had the pleasure of assisting in the return of the portions of my Company and our support Company that were deployed for nearly a year. I missed the ceremony inside (although I unfortunately saw a few of our SSGs "doing the Electric Slide" outside as the DJ attempted to entertain the family members through another landing delay), but I got to see everyone outside. We helped set up in the gym, while the Family Readiness Group (officers' wives, mostly) and their kids blew up balloon...
Now, I'm a bit of a "life voyeur," nothing sexual here. I people watch, sometimes unconsciously. It was unavoidable this morning, at the Legal Assistance office. Not only did I get to witness the people in line in front of me, including the skinny PFC in DCUs whose mother, sitting in the waiting area, had asked him to get a blanket power of attorney for when he went over to Iraq (was she just being protective, or trying to pull one over on him?), but I got to hear one side of several pho...
If you're too overweight (read: fat) to comforatbly walk around Wal-Mart while shopping (read: lazy enough to ride on one of those self-propelled motor chairs), you probably shouldn't eat at the in-store McDonald's for lunch. Also, did you know that out of a children's happy meal, the part with the most calories is the french fries (230, compared to 170 for either 4 chicken MC nuggets or the chocolate "milk")? Whereas the "apple dippers" are low calorie (comparitively) and are also "a go...
Most stupid thing I've heard in awhile: On CNN's "90 Second Pop" segment on their morning show, the pairing of Pitt and Jolie was referred to as "Brangelina". And I've heard some stupid things lately.
This class finished a little more recently than my GOVT class. Keep in mind that this is also undergrad, but that it's History *ONE* (US History through Reconstruction) as opposed to Government *TWO*. I don't know whether that means it's easier, or that not all the morons are weeded out yet. Let's look at the scores, maybe that will help. Open book tests: Possible points in each: 50 My scores: 45/48/50 Class averages: 36.58/36.29/37.46 Proctored, computer final exam: Possible point...
