The Grass Isn't Greener Anywhere Else

Now, I'm a bit of a "life voyeur," nothing sexual here. I people watch, sometimes unconsciously. It was unavoidable this morning, at the Legal Assistance office.

Not only did I get to witness the people in line in front of me, including the skinny PFC in DCUs whose mother, sitting in the waiting area, had asked him to get a blanket power of attorney for when he went over to Iraq (was she just being protective, or trying to pull one over on him?), but I got to hear one side of several phone conversations. One of note was that someone with a PoA had done some amateur electrical work on the car of the person who gave them the PoA, shorted it out and burned up the car. Neither side thought they should pay for it. Whee.

But the last bit was as I was signing my Special PoA, and the SPC who was assisting me took a phone call. Hanging up, he said to me, "That's a tough situation. One week back from Iraq, and the the guy finds out he's getting divorced and his wife won't let him see his kids."

I'm so grateful for what I have.

Its funny how you dont realize just how good things really are for you until you see other people and their situations. I, too, am extremely grateful for what I have. Good article.
