[hat tip to Greyhawk at the Mudville Gazette Link and Smash Link , both of whom have done a better job of this than I could hope to]

Perusing CNN for a future understanding of the news I would watch later today in Arabic (always easier to infer a definition of an unknown word if you know the subject matter), I read an article detailing the suicide bombing deaths of fourteen Marines Link. True to CNN's style, they had a second article below that one, with the summary bullets ("in related news", related in that it happened in Iraq) at the end. (They also had a separate article on him as well Link.)

I hadn't read any of this man's material, until this morning when I headed over to his blog, In The Red Zone Link, which is also the name of the book he wrote last year Link. Having read just the last few entries, I know that I'm going to purchase his book. His writing style is readable and honest, and he seems to genuinely care about his subject matter. The blog also provides links to other articles and editorials that he has written for national publications.

I encourage everyone to check out this story, and this man's writings.

I've never read Mr. Vincent's blog but I'm sorry to hear of his death. More sorry of the way he died. It is terrible that such a thing happened to someone who only wanted to give voice to those on the other side and in the "trenches" of what goes on in Iraq. Yet another way for democracy to be silence. May he rest in peace.
