On my long drive to Fort Hood yesterday, I was of course assaulted by the variety of roadkill omnipresent on Texas's highways. I had cringe-worthy near misses with birds, mostly of the scavenger variety as they left their sun-baked feasts just in the nick of time. I recall thinking, "Fucking bird!" and wondered if he must have thought, "Fucking car!" I saw a turtle, a fairly large one, maybe the size of my head. He was in my lane traveling right to left across the road. It sounds like ...

I used to think that I didn't have a good work ethic. On the drive home today, I imagined a conversation with someone I had never met. (Six hours in the car does this to me.) I was talking with her about kids and motivation. I said, "I didn't have a very good work ethic when I was younger," but then realized that wasn't totally accurate. At the time, I was describing why I had never gotten Eagle Scout... and that's what made me think of this. I was a Boy Scout until I enlisted in the...

Today wasn't as bad for me as I thought it might be. Vitamin water before I hit the road. Beef jerky (160 cal) and the new carb-less Rockstar (in the blue can) (20 cal) on the way. 1/2lb buffalo burger with tomato, extra onion and mayonaisse with onion rings and a beer, and another carb-less Rockstar. My third carb-less Rockstar (it's my new favoritest energy drink), beef jerky, a powerbar and a vitamin water. And I'm not really hungry (although I'm dehydrated!), so I'll just eat tom...

I was going to be good today, but I wound up in a foul mood almost right off the bat. One BIG encouraging bit this morning was weighing myself at 216.0 lb after PT, but things continued to pile on me all morning. I didn't have my mid-morning snack and wound up splurging (big time) at the new BBQ place on base. 3 eggs, salsa for post-PT breakfast (PT was 25 minutes on the elliptical machine, some back work and leg press). Beef brisket, sausage, cole slaw, pinto beans (I ate the pickles a...

I was 219.5 this morning, which is barely lighter than I've been lately. I'm having problems getting below 220, which is a shame, because stripping the next 14 pounds should really rip me up. PT was just a light 2.5 mile jog. Very. Very. Slowly. Vitamin water: 25 cal, 0 fat cal, 0g fat, 0g saturated fat, 6g carb, 0g fiber, 0g protein 3 eggs, salsa: 250 cal, 135 fat cal, 15g fat, 4.5g saturated fat, 5g carb, 1g fiber, 21g protein Protein bar: 190 cal, 45 fat cal, 5g fat, 4.5g satur...

Yes, "force adjustments." Stressing that this is not related to "that surge thing we did," the Department of Defense announced yesterday the identities of the next 10 brigade combat teams that will deploy in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. These units consist (or will consist, if they become fully staffed) of approximately 35,000 personnel (where have we seen that number before?) and deployments of these units will begin in August 2007 (which falls earlier than beginnings of some previo...

I'm feeling much better, thanks. Some gym time this morning, not much food during the day, then too much KFC for dinner. Took a big nap, now I'm up doing laundry. Run tomorrow morning.

PT was cancelled (I assume for lightning within 5nm of base) so I got to sleep in a tad, and I managed to sit through the scheduled briefing this morning, but... once I got to class, I started feeling very poorly. Very poorly. Dizzy, nauseous, a warm feeling that might indicate low grade fever. I was functional for about an hour, maybe less, and I tried to settle my stomach by eating something. Note: not all chemically produced "food" is good for settling an upset stomach. Further n...

Bacon and eggs Part of an energy bar (because the kids mooched about half of it) The Mac&Cheese that the kids didn't eat My kids don't like Pizza Rolls + My inability to let food go to waste = 1400 calories! Energy drink (Rockstar) and a large protein bar on the way home Might actually do the dumbbell work that I mention so often on here as a pre-bedtime activity...

Let's see: Energy drink and chorizo&egg burrito for breakfast Soy protein snacks to tide me over until lunch Chicken and sausage gumbo and a grilled cheese sandwich (2 slices wheat, one slice 2% milk cheese, olive oil spray instead of butter/margarine) for lunch A couple of Cheetos (or Cheat-Os, perhaps) An energy bar Ginormous pizza buffet After lunch but before the energy bar, we went to the pool for about an hour and a half. I didn't put any sunscreen on... hooray.
