I figured I could get some of my fiber requirement for the day in an easy and tasty way by getting some instant oatmeal. Of course, Muscle&Fitness magazine told me I wasn't being good enough. They rated the kind I was getting (Quaker Oats Fruit & Cream) as one of the worst due to all the extra sugar. I knew I wasn't ready to switch to their "best" rated oats. Fall of '96. The week before classes began. "New Cadet Week" at the VA Tech Corps of Cadets. The cadre arrived the week prior to that to get trained up. Each cadet company (there were nine at the time, four in each battalion plus the band) had a CO, an (both Seniors), a 1SG, two Platoon Sergeants (C/SSGs, all three were Juniors), and two Cadre Corporals (Sophomores). Modified from a recipe found in Muscle&Fitness magazine, three issues ago: This time, I kinda doubled it to a 2-lb meatloaf, way too much for me to even think about eating all of it tonight. There's this room in the back of my apartment. Currently, there are a great number of things in there... about 6 long boxes of comic books. Boxes of HeroClix figures and collectible card games. Piles of clean clothing... one pile of dirty clothing. A dresser. A pile of shoes and boots. But there isn't a bed. I've been sleeping on this couch for I-don't-know-how-long. Damn, I'm lousy at this sport. My legs are shot, I haven't given myself time to recuperate, Every day has been something with my legs. If I go to the gym at all this weekend, I'm staying away from lower body entirely. Good workout, though. Good cardio. I just need to eat less.

So far, I've passed two PT tests and two weigh-ins/body fat tests, I've gotten 100% on three academic tests, and I haven't gone apeshit. Good deal. I need to start studying Arabic again, get this academic paper done this coming week, and figure out what to do with myself for the weekend. I need to buy those bunk beds and get them delivered ($900 later), and I still need some other things for the apartment. Third weekend in a row... pretty good. I always do better when they're here, anyway. This weekend is Easter, and I've picked up some small amounts of candy for them. I led PT this morning, light stretching, fast jog to the flight line, then a 4-mile run. This afternoon, the gym, ran/walk for just over 20 minutes (1.5 miles). Burned out my biceps on some curl machine. Need to do some pushups and crunches tonight. No PT tomorrow morning (unless I drag myself to the gym at 0530), maybe the gym in the evening. This one was barely planned... I knew about it since Sunday evening. I had to drive all the way there and back to pick them up, and I'll have to make the same trip on Sunday. 12 hours in the car this weekend, not counting local driving time... but it's well worth it. I've taken two PT tests this week, and I've been weighed and taped twice. Monday: 45 push-ups, 55 sit-ups, 16:25 run; 227#, 17.25" neck, 40.5" waist. Tuesday: 225#, 17.5" neck, 40.5" waist Thursday: 49 push-ups, 60 sit-ups, 16:44 run That's what I'm working from... I'm only going to get better.

It's my weekend, again, and we just got in. I haven't smiled this much in two weeks. I have big plans for the weekend. Saturday is: breakfast, pay the rent, haircuts, the park, lunch, "fun" shopping (toys and games, probably), dinner (pizza buffet and games) and a movie. Sunday is: breakfast, church, games, lunch, clothes shopping, and then dropping them off. I'm really looking forward to it... I'm already having a great time!

Right before I moved here, I laid out some financial aims for myself. I haven't actually solidly outlined them yet, however. Let's see: 1) Set aside an "emergency fund" equal to twice my monthly base pay. 2) Cut my credit card debt in half by the end of the fiscal year. 3) Save something.
