pseudosoldier's Articles In Life Journals

As Greywar and Estrogen Lass (amongst others) would tell you, I have been slacking at this blog bit. While there are numerous excuses I could espouse, I'll just let you know how it is. It's never been about me being stupid; it's all about the sloth, folks. (I actually have a rabid fear/allergic reaction to being called/thought of as stupid. While I can't stop you from thinking it, I'd prefer if you didn't bring it up. okthx) This actually feeds right into my next point: how to take two...

While it wouldn't seem so based on how much time I've spent on JU, I've been away from home for about a month-and-a-half now. I returned this past weekend, tho, to some (IMO) well-deserved leave, but I know that it's a working vacation. The American Government class that I've been taking self-paced and online ends this Friday. The instructor has agreed to give me an "Incomplete" for my grade, and I'll have 120 days to make up the missed work. Incidentally, this is actually longer than the...

Due to unforeseen long hours at work, and the quite foreseen "boy night out" drinking extravaganza beginning any minute (we're late for the pre-drink!), I won't be getting to the ETS portion of my ramblings, BASD Anniversary or no. Sorry for any inconvenience. See you at O'Malley's.

CB jumps back on the blogwagon, but not entirely. He claims that he will no longer be writing actively about his personal experiences in Iraq, because he does not want to subject himself to censorship. Personally, I feel that being bullied into keeping your yap shut for fear of being told specifically to keep your yap shut pretty much qualifies as censorship anyway, but if it makes him feel better... He also reposted some of his older stuff, to which he refers as his "Best Of" album. The ...

While all his old stuff is still down (I have the mental image of a soldier tearing down all the newspaper clippings he hung inside his tent in a fit of pique), CBFTW has a new article up, a reaction to an article in the LA Times which seems to have mentioned him. Nice to see him posting again, but such a shame that all those articles are no longer available for viewing...

And... he's gone. Could've seen this coming with recent events, though. Link Anyone save any of his stuff? My own stupid fault I didn't copy down the Men In Black post, or any of the other combat ones.

Or at least very large dog-things. I'm playing a game, and someone has an unfair game piece... it's hard to explain, but it seems to "break" the game until upon further inspection, it's not that broken a piece at all, it's just kind of innovative. You think it's not fair, but it's not unfair it's just different. And my sister's there, or maybe it's not my sister, but it's a woman that I know and I have deep affection for. Something's wrong, so maybe it's my sister, and I sympathize an...

Right before I moved here, I laid out some financial aims for myself. I haven't actually solidly outlined them yet, however. Let's see: 1) Set aside an "emergency fund" equal to twice my monthly base pay. 2) Cut my credit card debt in half by the end of the fiscal year. 3) Save something. Obviously, #3 is too sketchy to be worthwhile at this point. I have already accomplished #1, but it was a "gimme" since I had enough money in savings already. #2 is going to take some planni...

As some of my regular readers have figured out (sheesh, I have regular readers?), I "made it in one piece." I've reported into my gaining unit, signed my lease, and I'm actually on PTDY (Permissive Temporary Duty... kind of like a free vacation to get settled into my new home) until next Thursday. This week is actually Spring Break, so I have a couple of guys visiting me for some fun times. I've seen way too many kids DVDs (multiple times each, mostly), Shaggy Dog in the theatre, and playe...

There are those who are willing to "oppose" the military in getting the word out to teenagers, because they feel the military will target those individuals who are economically predisposed to join. The military offers such a financially stable lifestyle that these underpriveleged youths will have no better choice than to enlist in the big green machine, and go on to be baby-eating, brown-skin killers. [/digression] After The Fact Once you're in, there's another part of the culture tha...

Suddenly, today, everything happened. I came off of duty recovery with only roughly 60 hours left to get all my History classwork done before the drop-dead-line of Friday night. I'm not nearly done, and I'm not sure when I'm going to do it all... probably during that time I had scheduled to sleep. All sorts of balls are in the air as Platoon Sergeant, some of which I hadn't set in motion, some of which I had thrown up there several weeks ago, some of which I had never seen before I saw...

I am approaching the final week of my online History II class, and I am woefully behind. Honestly, I'll be scraping for a 'C', and that will be the worst grade I have earned since I flunked out at Virginia Tech. I never got below a 'B' at Defense Language Institute (3.3 GPA) and haven't yet gotten below a 'B' with eArmyU (3.something GPA). *sigh* On the other hand, the Philosophy I class... I'm still behind in, but at least I have five more weeks to do seven weeks of work. And the pr...

Having acquired my Associate of Arts in Arabic from the Defense Language Institute, Foreign Language Center, I faced a decision on what was next for me, educationally. Granted, I'm in the middle of an online History of the US 2 course, and have just started Philosophy 1, also online, but I was more concerned with what I would do degree-wise. My first possible choice was to simply not do anything to alter my projected degree. However, an Associate of Arts in General Studies wouldn't add a...

Push-up event: Prior test: 42 Goal: 52 This test: 55 Sit Up event: Prior test:69 Goal: 70 This test: 69 (whoops) 2-mile Run event: Prior test: 15:58 Fastest time ever: 15:34 Goal: 15:30 This test: 14:46 Yes, I'm bragging. That's an improvement of somewhere around 30 points on a 300 point scale. "Just passing" is no longer good enough for me. "Meeting the standard" isn't personally satisfactory any more. I'm better than that. I'd like to thank PO3 akulanka for s...
