I bought an Arabic language cookbook recently, and have started to read over it as a way of getting in some light practice. "The Complete Cooking Guide for the Modern Woman, More Than 560 Arabic and international recipes." There are some weird things in there... like this. Ingredients: 1/2 kilo of ground meat 1 cup of dried "Afgani" bread crumbs 1/2 cup chopped onion 1/2 cup tomato juice 1 well-beaten egg 1/2 tsp salt 1/4 tsp pepper Method: Mix all ingredients well and shape ...

On the 6th, my diet was pretty much in-line with what I had eaten on the 5th, until I got to dinner. I was home just after 6pm and asleep about an hour later, so I didn't get to eat. On the 7th, it was more or less more of the same, except that dinner fell into that malleable "weekend time" where calories don't count against me (until I weigh myself Monday morning). PT on the 6th was a leg workout in the gym; I skipped my afternoon session because I was exhausted (as evidenced by falling...

I have about one month before my next PT test, and I start teaching tomorrow. Both of those are good reasons to start this up again and see how well I can do: the first gives me a goal and a timeframe and the second gives me a "fresh start" of sorts. I was 223.5# this morning (not quite hovering... rising slightly over the past month) but just now I was 221#. granola bar - 90 cal, 20 fat cal, 2g fat, 0.5g sat fat, 19g carb, 1g fiber, 1g protein Propel - 25 cal, 0 fat cal, 0g fat, 0g sat...

While waiting to pick up a delivery yesterday, I meditated a bit on some things I had recently read. I have a thought fragment that I'll attempt to reproduce here and one that I've already put into the Philosophy sub-forum. That religion (esp. x-ian, e.g. RCath) is full of blatant contradictions can actually be useful as an exercise of faith. Similar to meditation on a Zen koan, reflection upon seeming contradictions can induce mental acrobatics like no other thoughts. The easy things to...

While waiting to pick up a delivery yesterday, I meditated a bit on some things I had recently read. I have two thought fragments that I'll attempt to reproduce here and in the Religion sub-topic in a bit. The first: "If one is taught as system of right/wrong that hinges upon an eternal carrot/stick system (heaven/hell), how can one say that he acts out of conscience? Is it morality or consequence which drives his behavior?" That's what I jotted down yesterday on the back of an old...

Food - I made a package of Monischewitz hummus mix about an hour ago, chilled it and ate it with onions and a wheat tortilla. You could tell it was "intant," but it was still very tasty. I'll likely have some sort of packaged meal that includes meat (like a Lean Cuisine or maybe a microwaveable chili bowl) later before going to bed early. I heard about and read about an Egyptian dish during class today: koshari. It's traditional Egyptian (and to an extent Sudanese) and is basically rice...

American Operations in Iraq Against Al-Qaeda and Shia Militias The American Army considers that the previous widespread operations was successful(picture caption) The American Army executed in Iraq a broad-scope military operation said to be aimed at fragmenting the infrastructure of Al-Qaeda in Iraq and the Shia militias equally. A military spokesperson said that the operation which carried the name " Shabih Strike" (supposed to be "Phantom Strike," but the adjective doesn't a...

The American Army said that the raids targeted "those embroiled" in transpor...

Saturday, I traveled up to my old stomping grounds to participate in the Coming of Galactus (week 3) tournament for the HeroClix miniatures game. I was disappointed that I wouldn't be going to the usual place for the tournaments and that most of my old friends would not be attending. Those of my friends who are still in the area are mostly working odd shifts, so they cannot reliably attend what amounts to a hobbyist meeting. But the location for the tournament was a different deal. Book...
