This morning on MSNBC, I heard that Afghanistan is donating $100K to the Katrina relief. (No, these are not the people I'm referring to in the title.) This is great, but it got me wondering where they would scrounge up that kind of scratch. Are they reappropriating it from monies we've already given to them in aid? Maybe this isn't as weird as I think it is, as the beuaracracy does this sort of thing all the time... it's all accounting and allocation of funds.

They followed that up with:
Iran has offered us aid.
Castro wants to send 1100 doctors to Houston to help out.
Chavez said he'd send financial aid, cheap fuel, and other disaster relief material.

I guess we're all human, somewhere underneath.

Hmm...ever read the book, Grendel? It shows the human inside of monsters or more precisely the monster inside of humans...this title just got me thinking about it...

Hey, Al-Jazeera noticed, too! Link Oddly appropriate, I think. (The numbers they quote are even higher than I had heard from US sources.)

Does he have to cut pictures out of magazines starting with whatever letter they're working on that week? That's what Britt had to do. Drove me crazy.

Hope the board went well. I'm sure you did a good job. You're cool like that.

The PR is more valueable than what the "monsters" are offering. Symbolic acts to reinforce the myth of their symbolic concience. I don't doubt Al-Jazeera posted higher figures.

That's it exactly, actually. (For those just tuning in, no, this is a non sequitur. And I'm okay with that. Cuz it's Heather.)

Not feeling so cool right now, anyways...

Well, to get it back on subject a little -

We were discussing in my history class if we would actually be accepting the aid from Castro. I don't think we will. Gives him too much credit. My prof said he wished Castro would die. Then there was a discussion of Pat Robertson's words about Chavez.

So - why not feeling cool? We could continue this on my blog if ya want. Or not. Just know that I am here if you need someone else for a sounding board.
