or, GOVT 2302 Final Grades
Published on May 23, 2005 By pseudosoldier In Virtual Communities
I haven't really been completely satisfied in the online classes I've taken through eArmyU. After finishing up my Government II class, I have come to realize why.

I know that some of these grades are skewed for people not doing anything in class, and not dropping it in time, but I know this teacher to be very lenient about how much extra time might be given, and how well she communicates with the students if they have the possibility of dropping it.

Midterm:
Possible points: 250
My score: 225
Class average: 134.66

Final:
Possible points: 250
My score: 225
Class average: 131.98

Discussion (minimally participating in the forums, total of four posts):
Possible points: 100
My score: 100
Class average: 44.29

Research Paper:
Possible points: 200
My score: 100 (see my last article)
Class average: 76.31

Final grades:
Possible points: 1000
My score: 845 (85% -
Class average: 531.26 (53% - F)

There is no curve, here... It's also important to note that 200 points of the total were "gimme" points, where you couldn't score less than 200 if you turned all the work in. (Online quizzes that you must take over and over again until you get 100%, and the questions don't change.) Also, no one attempted the extra credit.

The future of America... the future of the Army! (Most students came to this class through eArmyU, although many of them signed up just through the local community college.)

From the introductory forum posts ("bare with me, this is my first online class"), to the discussion topics (the very very confused stances on the War Powers Act... I wish I could cut and paste), to the late introductory posts (posted in week five of an eight week course)... I'm so proud!

Jeebus.

whoa. talk about mixed emotions.

One the one hand: look how good I did!
On the other hand: compare to... .

You can't really get a sense of accomplishment from a scenario like this.

Seems to not have improved much since the 70/80s when I took some class while serving (no such thing as online then). Stopped and waited until I go out then went back to school on my own.

So now it boils down to this:

Thank you for not eating boogers while slack-jawed.
Why the hell didn't you get an 'A'?

That would be procrastination and sloth. Note the final paper grade. Had I gotten 55 more points on that, I would have just passed into A-land. I put off the paper until the final week, and then didn't feel like trying to write more on it. Had I written another page, cited more sources, attempted to footnote... maybe. Seemed like a lot of work at the time.

Wait until I do a write-up of my History I class grade...

Procastination & Sloth.
2 activities I used to truly excel at. But i got lazy in me old age. Now it takes more effort than I can muster to drum up a decent 'ho-hum'.
March on.

No surprise, have you ever noticed the promotion lists for the enlisted? As the ranks go up, the education level goes down down down.........Congratulations on kicking your coscholars' collective ass though.

I used to procrastinate, but just don't have the time anymore.

Well why bother to even think of it, then? Seems your time'd have been better spent procastinating.

My thoughts too. I never took anything, tried hard not to go to class in high school. Managed to get booted for not showing up to tell the teach I already read their books, the exercises were redundant and I had better things to do like cruise around in my 1968 Corvair Spyder with dual 4 bbl and 4 speed. (Loved that car.. )
