Military Mascots
For Hyperborean Wanderer

I ran into an article while reading the Early Bird news last week, and knew I'd have to point it out to HW. This
Link
will require you to register for the service (and I
do
mean "register for the service"), but you may be able to find it if the New York Daily News has an online archive.
Also, you could go to this
Link
from the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Pretty much the same information is given...
Basically, there is an organization that collects donations to take unit mascots home from abroad, where they will become personal pets. This leapt out at me because of HW's article at this
Link
. That poor dog.
I mean, don't get me wrong; it's still just a dog. I wrestle occasionally with the attachment that people have with pets; personally, I'd prefer to not have them. Sometimes I forget to feed my useless dog
Link
, but then I can use him as an outlet for my Catholic guilt. Maybe I'm heartless.
Anyway, if someone has $1500 laying around, maybe you could help HW rescue a pet? Howsaboutit? (I dread having to repost this for when greywar wants to bring that damned cat home...)

That cat takes care of herself. Iwould be afraid to introduce her to the US's soft wuss cats. They would all be her bitches (so to speak).

I appreciate the offer, Pseudo, but it's a little late for that now. I'll explain more when I get home. Thanks for thinking of me, and of AWOL, though

When are you due back (roughly)? SGT (SSG?) Jennifer is already back with his wife and has even come to visit the old platoon (although it's very little like the old platoon).

I'm currently working for E-5 over 6 pay, but I think some in the platoon think that's too much...

Judging from today, 15 minutes out, 15 minutes back.
