After putting it off for months, the Sauds couldn't help but jump on the bandwagon after what went down in Iraq: Link

Hay, look! al-Jazeera has something to say, too! Link Way to be upbeat about the strides your Arab brethren are taking, Al-Jay! If you can't go all the way, why bothering taking small steps, amirite?

While some were calling for the Suadis to take Democratic steps just this past month Link ("The government of Saudi Arabia can demonstrate its leadership in the region by expanding the role of its people in determining their future."), they had actually been planning (and putting off) this election for quite awhile. I hope no one steps forward to claim this was their idea... (Hi, Boss!) But I don't think anyone would.

Realistically, will this change many (any?) of Saudi Arabia's policies, or make a huge impact upon the way things are run there? Nah. But it is a baby step, starting to stumble towards the open arms and smiling face of Momma Democracy... Who's a big girl? You are, Saudi Arabia!

Thanks for this, pseudo. I wish that I knew what all these words mean, but I get the jist of it and will applaud these tiny steps also. No time right now to read all your links but I will be back. Thanks for all the info.
