At least, that's the funnier way to read it

Another funny way to read it is, "US Girl Soldiers ' Mud Fight Shame." (Thank you, UK Mirror Link )

Originally, I ran across this while surfing al-Jazeera for some language training today. Of course, I couldn't find it on the Arabic side, but I was trying to cross reference with their English language articles. Link The actual title doesn't have the commas (commas added for comedic effect).

I figured, well, this can't be as bad as it sounds, right?

Wrong.

Google News brought up over 260 hits, and when I went to show it to other soldiers less than 10 minutes later, 10 more hits had been added. They all basically said the same thing. Soldiers had let their "extracurricular activities" get out of hand.

This really isn't excusable, especially in a combat zone. This sort of thing shouldn't be a unit activity, it shouldn't involve soldiers, it shouldn't involve soliders egging other soldiers on into insanity. At the very least, they broke the cardinal rule of "don't get caught," because they were exceedingly stupid. But of course it's more than that.

Should've never happened. Good job, NCOs. "No one is more professional than I..."

And chip earns the first insightful I've given out for a one word response.

Looking back on the article, I realize I feel more strongly about this than the otherwise joking title suggests. I'll leave it, because that's how I wrote it... But I regret it. This sort of jackassery transcends "teh funnay" and heads right for "an embarassment to us all."

Reports show that one female SPC involved was already demoted to PFC (the "event" took place last OCT), but that she says that she was just caught up in the moment... Me? I think she's still culpable. But I hope they take an honest look into the allegations that it was NCOs in the unit that organized this, and more...

As fodder for late night comedians and bloggers, it's a great issue!! However, for anyone who wants to try to elevate it to a political issue....

Can everyone say, "Non Issue!" Good, I knew you could!! ;~D

I laugh my head off when I here about things like this. Do people really think that troops are really that much different than their counterparts at any given university? I'll tell you, in Desert Storm, I was in a REMF unit, about 1/3 of the unit was female. During the time I was on night shift, I rarely ventured outside the TOC for fear of who I might trip over.

There is a reason that we sent an average of 20 females back to home station every week (theaterwide, not just 1st COSCOM), and this is a larger example of that reason. I knew of around 50 females who were busted by Central Investigation Division for prostitution (usually around $50 a shot according to the messages I received on the matter).

Do I think this is a good thing? No
Do I think this (as well as the "Mug Wrestling) thing puts into question the professionalism of these servicemembers? Yes.

I also think that this is an issue which should be handled at that company level (and from what I see, it was).

Making fun of it, as well as those involved is of course to be expected so....

BRING IT ON!!! ;~D

PT2K - Political issue? I don't see how anyone can pin this on anyone, politically. So, I'll go ahead and agree with you there.

As far as their counterparts (age-wise) in the universities, it was only two years after I ... left VT, that two of the ROTC cadets were booted for actions unbecoming (i.e. stripping in clubs across the border in WV). I suppose at least in this incident, it probably wasn't pre-meditated.

Quote from article:

Lt Col Barry Johnson said: "The episode came at a time when a unit was preparing to leave and there was a transfer of authority.

"But that is not an excuse. Some people did some stupid things." /quote

Ya think?!?!

I HATE women like this. Those of us that try to do our jobs and earn respect are just taken down when biyatches like this come up.

When I was in the field, none of this shit was going on in our platoon. Maybe our company, but not our platoon. There was a story of our supply spc having sex in the portapotty with her bf. ICK! If any of the girls in my squad had acted like that.....I don't know what I would've done. But it wouldn't have been pretty!

Also, they sound like a few women I've actually worked with. At least I think they were capable of this type of stupidity.
