A Smackdown! Tribute to the Troops, 2004

Aired on 23DEC04, this is a nice nod to our deployed troops by WWE, Inc. Even if you don't like wrestling, it was a pretty good show. Besides, there was only four matches in two hours, so the sports entertainment wasn't too overwhelming anyway.

I was going to try a full write-up, but I had to accept the fact that I'm not CRZ Link. I wouldn't be able to do justice to the matches, but you can read the summary on the WWE website Link.

I would like to say that this was great for them to do. Not all military folks are fans of professional wrestling, but this was a pretty big event regardless. They visited some very enthuasiastic troops over there, went to more than 15 bases in Iraq, and were even present for a rocket attack on one of the FOBs. Nothing negative was said in the broadcast, and everything from the troops seemed pretty positive, as well. WWE superstars were even present for the reenlistment of a SPC from 1-4 Cav.

I do feel better for our guys, too. "Nobody comes to the combat FOBs. They go to Resort City [name of deployment zone]." - anonymous SPC, impressed that celebrities came to visit them
