Now... Let me just say that this situation is pretty ghoddamned stupid. "[T]he Army says Parrish never formally resigned his commission as a lieutenant, making him eligible for involuntary recall to duty. Parrish says he did not know he had to resign."

"But officer, I didn't know I had to register that gun." "But I didn't know I had to carry my auto insurance card on me."

"According to Waple, the papers Parrish signed in 1992, when he accepted an ROTC scholarship, specified that he was committing to eight years of active and reserve duty but made no mention of a resignation requirement.
"What is clear is it's an eight-year service obligation," Waple said in a phone interview. "What is not clear is what someone has to do to end this relationship." "

Well, gosh. You know, he's actually right. When you accept an Army ROTC scholarship (I'm unsure about the other services, but I assume it is similar), you sign a contract that obligates you for 8 years, just as if you enlisted. This is because, however, that you just enlisted! (In large part, anyway.) (I had an AROTC scholarship. And I lost it. They decided that I could: a) pay it back, in installments, even, or enlist for 3 years (with a 5 year additional reserve requirement, go figure). I chose to pay it back.) What the lawyer is failing to mention (and may not even realize) is that accepting a commission in the United States military also requires a contract. That contract then supercedes the previous, much in the same way that reenlisting works.

"The complaint says Parrish first learned of the resignation requirement June 9. Through Waple, he submitted a resignation letter that day, but the Army responded by saying the resignation could not be approved because "(unfortunately), you have been identified for mobilization." "
This man clearly "has some college," as one of my Drills used to say. He served 8 total years, and never bothered to find out about the full terms of his service requirements. And then he expected the Army to say, "Well, we wanted you to serve, but I guess you don't have to because you asked nicely."

Assclown.

Education != intelligence

Now I'm just waiting for HouseofStone to come along and wholeheartedly agree with your short but insightful comment. (Unfortunately, I have no Insightfuls left to give out... Perhaps tomorrow.)

So... LVL 1 editor is different than LVL 3 editor... interesting. Link
I can only make links that say "Link". Huh.

On a side note, this guy is still pretty dumb.

Greywar, are you using the JoeUser square bracket tags, or html?

Actually, he's using an interface that doesn't seem to be available to users of our level. He has a separate row of buttons below the Bold Italic Underline buttons row... Theory has it that it's because he is a different level of user.

This lieutenant was obviously sleeping when they told him about being an officer.

Lieutenants are so cute. I have one in my PLT. She is actually a 1LT(P) now. How that happened, I am not sure but I pretty much have to hold her hand. And now I get ass chewings for when she fucks something up, which is...oh....everyday. She was deployed to Iraq earlier this year. They kicked her out. The unit she was attached with sent her back over here becuase she was that dumb.
on Jul 10, 2004
Wow.
I especially like the part where you get reamed for her screw-ups.
on Jul 10, 2004
I dont even care about that any more. What bothers me is that she doesnt even know shes screwing up. Shes completely fucking oblivious to her stupidity and retardedness. My left nipple has more common sense than her.
on Jul 10, 2004
Please don't say things like that. It makes me miss your...

personality.

See, this is why I love hanging out with you guys. Intellectual political discussion descends to sexual innuendo at the drop of a nipple. Yeah, the opportunity presents itself to say something about smarts versus learnin', but you know, your work pretty much says it all. I'm going out of town... WAY out of town, in about a week, and I am the third guy in a group of two 2nd lieutenants and a SGT. These guys outrank me, are called upon to lead soldiers, are turned to in times of war for their military expertise, and I will be the one baysitting them on the way over so they don't get turned around at the airport. Ah well, I ain't doin' it to get rich.
on Jul 10, 2004
Take care of yourself while you're out of town. You'll be in our thoughts.

And don't think I won't miss your personality, too, muffinass.
