Not!

I knew I was going to this almost three months ago, since I insisted after the last one (that I was thrown out of) that I wanted to go back. (They're quarterly, so that's about three months.) But I slacked, so while I'm better prepared than last time (primary goal: don't get thrown out; secondary goal: have the CSM call me by my actual name), I'm not as prepared as I'd like. We got a memorandum for the board just over a month ago and then got a new memo at the end of last month that changed several of the study topics and even the date for the board, moving it to the 13th.

I show at my company before the appointed time on the 13th, in my greens, checking in before the board. After a brief conversation with SSG Bladesmith, the 1SG enters the room. He peers at me strangely.

"What's up?" remarks the 1SG. I take this as a standard slang greeting and not an actual inquiry into the events of the day.
"Not much, Top," I reply.
"Well," says SSG Bladesmith snarkily, "SSG Doe just decided that he'd get dressed up and all spiffy today for no good reason."
"Instead of tomorrow for the board?" inquired the 1SG.

Yes, the second memo they produced was incorrect on multiple counts: the date, the start time of the board, the fact that they listed no names for persons attending the board... so, I'll get to go back in today. The event loosened me up some, though. How nervous should I be when appearing for an evaluation before someone who can't even produce an accurate memo 2 weeks out? But I am still nervous, at least a bit, since I know I'm not great at this. I have decided that I'm "okay" at it, so I won't be volunteering for it again any time soon (maybe next year), but I'm not "great."

Still, I'll go in, do my best and see what happens. Here's hoping to not get kicked out!

And, Happy Birthday, Army. Happy Flag Day, y'all.

I want to do a full write up at some point, but I'm going to be pretty busy for awhile with a visit from my parents. However: 1) I did not get kicked out, I did the full hour of the board and 2) I will not be visiting you two in Sierra Vista any time soon.

You are in good hands, it is clear.

But that's both good and possibly bad news: good that you didn't get the boot, but can I assume you did NOT get NCO o' the Quarter?

Congrats!

Some of you may have gotten the wrong impression. I did not get kicked out, I did make it through the full hour, plus, of proceedings, but I did not get the nod to make me NCO of the Quarter. That was the reference to the visit... if I were to continue on to compete for NCO of the Quarter for my Brigade, I would have to go to Brigade Headquarters (conveniently located near two of my favorite people in the world).

Ah, well. Maybe next quarter (or the one after).

Yeah, that was an obscure reference indeed. It's been more than six years since I knew that the location of the 344th MI's brigade HQ was in Sierra Vista, Arizona. Heck the only reason I know what your unit's number is? I had to fill out my quintennial security re-cert recently.

I posted a comment earlier last week (not quite sure why it didnt get loaded)....anyhoo.....you keep going back to the fact that you did not get chosen as NCOQ. Big fat whoop. The fact of the matter is this: After being kicked out of your previous board *and*being called the wrong name upon leaving did not deter you from getting back onto the proverbial board horse. You got back on and you went in with your head up. The fact that you returned after an ordeal like that is amazing. I would have just told him to f*** off.

I have said it before and this defintely warrants another: You completely rock.
