In a sadly unsurprising twist, the Islamic State of Iraq has posted a video on one of its websites that claims that they had held the two missing US soldiers (SPC Alex R. Jimenez, 25, and PVT Byron W. Fouty, 19) held prisoner and decided to execute them. The video posted reportedly contained images of the soldiers' military identification cards.

While some feel that the insurgents are hoping "to deny closure to the families of the missing soldiers" by drawing out the timeline of finalizing this scenario, I wonder if they didn't screw this up. Terrorists shoudl be, by definition, attempting broad impactful acts designed to sway our overall emotional state. I hope that our resolve is simply strengthened by these cowardly and dishonorable acts; I refuse to imagine that this is going to further break our spirits. The amount of man-power pledged to finding these missing soldiers and the bastards who were holding them was considerable and should be a wake-up call to the terrorists.

The Islamic State of Iraq, while sometimes identified as a part of or a staunch ally of or currently containing Al-Qaeda in Iraq (AKA Al-Qaeda in Mesopotamia, AKA Al-Qaeda in The Land of Two Rivers), seems to be organized as an insurgent government, based on Islamic Sharia law and apparently holding its capital in Baqubah, Iraq. Apparently, Iraq is considered a starting point "for the Islamic nation fighters in the battle to liberate Palestine from the Zionist entity." This is according to the jihadist's video blog postings referred to as "The Voice of the Caliphate."

Of course any reference to "Caliphate" shouldn't be in anyway construed as intent to create a global Caliphate. That would be a fascist assumption. Of course these guys aren't fascists are they?

I wonder how the Daily Kos and the DU will celebrate these deaths?
