Nod to greywar for the title
The Highlander Collectible Card Game has been experiencing a bit of turmoil over the past year or so, which is odd since it was out of print for so long.
Long considered one of the "dead" CCGs glutting the after-market, the Highlander CCG has enjoyed a very small but incredibly loyal fan base that have stuck with the game for nearly 10 years of inactivity. Last year, an upstart organization called SAEC Games put out a set of cards that were to be paid for by donating to charity (through SAEC, although the money appears to have gotten to the stated charities fine). The cards were seen as generally overstrong and unplaytested, as well as being very expensive especially when compared to the readily available out of print stock that rotates through eBay.
Recently, Mike Sager has resurfaced with plans of his own for the game. Sager owns the rights to the game system and seems to be clinging to the CCG rights to Highlander as well. He plans on releasing a 2nd Edition of the game within the next month, with compatibility issues a concern (although not as much a concern as Sager's shaky reputation from when he was Thunder Castle Games, the original producer of HL CCG). White borders and additional rules as well as restrictive tournament formats also top the list of concerns.
But Sager has his own concerns. He claims ignorance of most of SAEC's dealings, although they had long claimed he was involved in their release of the Black Raven cards. He has even invited SAEC's former customers to join a class action lawsuit against them...
