So, like I said last time, I had Jarhead, Cinderella Man and Doctor Zhivago lined up for last night. I jumped right in with an easy choice: Jarhead.

Based on a memoir of a former Marine's experiences during Desert Shield/Storm, this movie delivered an entertaining but sometimes sobering story of a man during war. There were different parts of the film that hit me harder now than they would've eight years ago. I can certainly recommend this, but keep in mind there's a little violence, some graphic sexuality and a lot of cursing (seemed pretty accurate in that regard though).

I tackled Cinderella Man last night, too. WOW. I really enjoyed this film, starring Russell Crowe and Renee Zellweger. A man does everything he can to survive... and to help his family. He overcomes physical challenges, social challenges, marital challenges... and just to keep the gay-sayers off my back, it's about boxing, and the action is pretty intense in those scenes. I actually want to buy this film to watch again.

Also to reassert my manhood, I need to say that I had Doctor Zhivago for about twenty minutes before I realized that I hadn't been watching it at all. I might try again tonight, but that would be with half a bottle of wine and an Ambien.

I did also watch Star Wars Episode III today, for the first time. Good Lord Vader, that movie was long. Too long. It was alright.

Picked up Life of Brian (which I started today, but probably won't watch until Monday) and Apocalypse Now Redux (which I haven't seen yet... yes, that loses me some man points, I know). Let y'all know what I thought later.

I loved Cinderella Man. I thought it was a great movie. It makes me realize how lucky we are now. Most of us have never had to struggle to feed our families.

I just saw Jarhead last night. The final scene, shifting from the view from Tony's front window of the street, to the view seen back on the desert was totally unforgettable.

Hey Killer,...
First off, I hope all is well. As far as video stores go, when I was there, I found the Hollywood video store next to the pizza place on loop 306 to have the best deals. Five day renatals are cool. If you get a chance, drop me an email, I'm on AKO global and have the same name on hood spam. Let me know how you're doing and if I can do anything for you. I only have four weeks left before I move on to greener pastures so drop me a line.
Love ya bro,
Big D

Loved Jarhead, and yep, definitely down two man points for not seeing the Redux. Drink two beers immediately to make up the difference. And two more for watching Cinderella Man. Great movie, fruity title.

Follow up with two more, and some Motrin, and maybe, just maybe you'll be able to get through star wars III. The evil general gives it four thumbs down. Then again, what do I know? I spent the weekend cross-stitching and watching Woody Allen flicks mixed with a little Family Guy.

Oh yeah, and 1941. We've been playing the March from the Belushi bits, and I couldn't get the damned song out of my head.

I thought you'd foresworn the latest three Star Wars films. I seem to remember an "absolutely never" escaping your lips.

But hey, at least now you've got the story arc complete. Not fulfilled, but complete.

I had seen 'Episode 1' in the theater in Monterey. I played 'Episode 2' through twice while I wasn't really watching it, mostly for the Yoda fight. I only really watched about half of 'Episode 3' when I put it in the DVD player.

Actually, "absolutely never" was about the re-mastered versions of the Holy Triology (IV-VI). Sadly, I back-pedaled on that as well, and I own the widescreen box set. It's worth it for the documentary disk, though. And, really, who doesn't like more lizards and robots?
