Creator of All,

As we gather here today in respectful celebration of the Corps of the Noncommissioned Officer, we ask that You watch over us and grant us the insight to keep in mind:

* that service is a higher calling, and we are all service members;
* that we serve not only those appointed over us, but we serve also the soldiers in our charge, the people of the nation and even all the peoples of the world, and You, our highest commander;
* that we prepare for the possibility of war in order to secure your lasting peace;
* and we ask that we may stand always vigilant.

In Your name we pray,
AMEN.

That was a great prayer and reminder of the duties accepted when pinning on the hard stripes.

My "induction" into the NCO corps was about 40 NCOs welcoming me into their ranks with "blood rank". ;~D

Thanks. I thought it turned out pretty well, too. I had been working on it in my head for two weeks now, and finally put it down on paper this morning. I bounced it off a couple of SPCs after I wrote it out...

One of them said it was "generic" (although he meant that as a good thing). I told him I was aiming for (and preferred) the term "non-denominational."

None of the Specialists I showed it to thought the Army part was too over the top, which is what I had dreaded. (The italicized bit is actually a paraphrasing of our unit motto, by the way, and was definitely one of the places I thought I had possibly gone too far.)

I appreciate the kind comment.

Nice job, pseudo... or should I say "DOH!"
The 'always vigilant' was a nice touch and very appropriate.
Excellent... too bad I wasn't there to hear it myself. I rejoice every time I hear about people I know succeeding and progressing in life.
