Continuing a personal countdown

No one is more professional than I. I am a Noncommissioned Officer, a leader of soldiers. As a noncommissioned officer, I realize that I am a member of a time-honored corps, which is known as "the Backbone of the Army." I am proud of the Corps of Noncommissioned Officers and will at all times conduct myself so as to bring credit upon the Corps, the military service, and my country regardless of the situation in which I find myself. I will not use my grade or position for pleasure, profit, or personal safety.

Competence is my watchword. My two basic responsibilities will always be uppermost in my mind -- accomplishment of my mission and the welfare of my soldiers. I will strive to remain tactically and technically proficient. I am aware of my role as a noncommissioned officer. I will fulfill my responsibilities inherent in that role. All soldiers are entitled to outstanding leadership; I will provide that leadership. I know my soldiers and I will always place their needs above my own. I will communicate consistently with my soldiers and never leave them uninformed. I will be fair and impartial when recommending both rewards and punishment.

Officers in my unit will have maximum time to accomplish their duties; they will not have to accomplish mine. I will earn their respect and confidence as well as that of my soldiers. I will be loyal to those with whom I serve; seniors, peers and subordinates alike. I will exercise initiative by taking appropriate action in the absence of orders. I will not compromise my integrity, nor my moral courage. I will not forget, nor will I allow my comrades to forget that we are professionals, Noncommissioned Officers, leaders!

Only 13 more days until I'm required to spout that, and other Army "trivia" information, off from memory. And get my uniform ready. And lose a few pounds. (While passing my Arabic qualification test, and fixing my ETS date so I don't get a premature discharge...)

Good luck.

I'm glad that in my time in the Navy everything was based on test scores and I didn't hvae to do any of the memorization that you all have to. Though it would be a good Idea of the Navy NCO to have to know these kinds of things. I feel that sometimes the importance of the Lower level NCO's are lost in the Navy and things such as this creed would help to reinstate their importance.

Good thing the board questions have moved beyond What a "Truk" is and how many are on and Army base... How many beads are on a dogtag chain and why (I know, SGM, they aren't Dog Tags, they are Identification Tags.. lol)... of even such Leadership requirements as the difference between "infux" and "inflection" in a "command voice".

I'm glad my boards had much more to do with the role of the NCO in a unit... and the difference between a NCO and just a Sergeant.

Good Luck with yours!! (((If you were in my unit, I would welcome you into the NCO corps the Airborne Way.... With "Blood Rank" ;~D

Good luck!

You know they plan the boards such that it's always a pain in the ass to be there? If you're prepared, they make you wait. If you're not prepared ... it takes place a day early.

Cheers!

Congratulations, and welcome to the brotherhood of the NCO. I've heard it's not so bad.....

That's quite possible. I'm getting a bit of an inside look into a Reserve Navy unit, and it's not really all that pretty. (Although a retired Navy higher enlisted assured me that wasn't the rule, but the exception.)

1. Brother, I'm already there. I'm ashamed to say that I never memorized the Creed well enough to still have it now. This is my board for 6.
2. Blood rank was banned two(?) First Sergeants ago. Somebody was appalled at the way SGT Lee Harvey bled like a stuck pig...

Much appreciated, though (maybe you've changed your mind knowing I don't know the creed backwards and forwards...?)

welcome to the brotherhood of the NCO

As above. I guess my name is a bit misleading; I'm actually a pseudosergeant.

Congrats

And that is definitely counting the chickens... but thanks!

As long as you still remember the creed of the specialist you'll be alright.

Well, it was Vince Calangelo himself who told me it wasn't as important to have the Creed memorized as it was to be able to live by it.

So, in any case, I'm still unprepared.
