through the power of blogging...

First off, let me say that I haven't been to Iraq. I'm also (most likely, anyway) not going. At least for a year. And probably not while I'm in the service. Maybe once I get out, if I get one of those lucrative mercenary translator jobs there. Remains to be seen.
But I have friends over there, both soldier and mercenary translator types. So, I'm experiencing some empathy for their plight. I watch one of my fellow soldiers worry about her husband day in and day out. I read blogs of soldiers I know Link and soldier I don't know Link Link .
But I also (at least occasionally) read from another perspective, both the Arab news Link and Iraqis, both living there Link (thanks Whip) and abroad Link .

It was one of those blogs, the last, that brought to my attention this funny list that seems to be circluiatng through some email address books. As Fayrouz posted it, I'll simply link you to it (why stop a good thing, right?) and let you get to yucking it up.

Very good, I am not a soldier let alone serving in Iraq but I can imagine those that are would read this and find it a hoot.....because of it's closeness to reality.

I got this list in email a while back. Pretty good stuff on it.

15. Once a month, take every major appliance completely apart and put it back together again.
We did this in Haiti and usually ended up with a handful of extra parts... if the generator (or whaterver) worked, the parts went in the trash.

16. Use 18 scoops of coffee per pot and allow it to sit for five or six hours before drinking.
This is how I usually drink my coffee.

I think that's how grey drinks his, too. But he usually dumps the mold out of the filter holder.

When we were in Korea, they only let him make coffee once... It was a shame, too, because he's one of the only people I know that can get it right... If you put a spoon in your cup and the coffee is thick enough for the spoon to stand up without touching the mug, the coffee is good.

Don't have to pretend anymore, I got here this morning. First impressions are fuzzy because they are filtered through a haze of fatigue brought on by being awake for the past 30 hours. Just had a DFAC lunch at Camp Victory North's Blackjack DFAC, and am fighting to stay awake. Finally got to ride on that damn C-130 everyone always sings about when they call cadence;... not everything it's cracked up to be. Dry and very dusty. not quite as hot as Kuwait, (where I spent the last two days waiting for my flight) but pretty damn close. Anyway, greetings from the middle east, and aint it silly to send a KP Golf, and not an AD Golf?

Y'know, this was one of the underlying reasons I wanted you to register. (Besides enjoying heaping abuse upon you.) Love the new nick, btw.
