Samhain Edition

4 mile run around a local campsite. Breakfast was an egg and an egg substitute, tall glass of milk with a scoop of protein powder.

We met up with the troops at the classroom and ran down some First Aid techniques. Buddy carries were demonstrated and executed and, by the time I got back from a thing, they were running walk-throughs of react to direct fire (near/far ambush). Up next was search/seizure skills and we broke for lunch.

Man, the chow hall still sucks. I had insisted on not believing the soldiers but... bleh. At least, if the line had been shorter it could've been over sooner.

We meet up again, distro blank rounds and hump it out to the training area again. Review the importance of 360 security. I get accused of being "cranky" because I raised my voice to a couple soldiers. I assure the soldier later that if she felt left out, I can yell at her tomorrow. Presence patrol, insurgents in the area. What do you do when the bad guys won't shoot at you and you have orders to hold fire until fired upon? Mexican standoff. (The SSG who was leading the opposing forces actually is Mexican, so it's only REALLY racist to say that, but hey, he laughed.) *Pop* Prepare to assault! Frag out! Assault through! L-O-A! 360 security, EPW teams up! Aid & Litter for the EPW team that didn't clear that grenade correctly...

Second patrol went... poorly. What do you do when the bad guys are facing the wrong way and don't shoot at you and you have orders to hold fire until fired upon? Uh... you get blown up by a grenade. D'oh. Bright side: PFC Tigers was still able to shoot, he was just missing a leg.

EndEx, reconsolidate, hump back to the Duty office. Weapons cleaning (now with rags!). SPC Raver is now known as "SSG Doe's friend who has a plan for when the zombies attack."

Good times.

Air Force chow, but the lines are still frickin' terrible. At least the Army gives you the mediocre food quickly.

Also, that breakfast is upwards of 300 calories. Mid-morning protein bar, lunch (Reuben sandwich) and dinner (what the heck did I have for dinner last night?). Yesterday was light, especially in light of the physical activity that I've been doing, but I'm right up around 1800-2000 calories I'd bet.
