I figured I could get some of my fiber requirement for the day in an easy and tasty way by getting some instant oatmeal. Of course, Muscle&Fitness magazine told me I wasn't being good enough. They rated the kind I was getting (Quaker Oats Fruit & Cream) as one of the worst due to all the extra sugar.

I knew I wasn't ready to switch to their "best" rated oats. If it was something that they didn't think tasted good, it probably wasn't. But I was encouraged by their "middle of the road" choice, Quaker Oats Weight Control. They said something to the effect of, "The banana bread flavor is surprisingly tasty!"

Well, it's not. And it's a lead weight in my gut. Ugh. I might just take the extra sugar in order to keep the taste...

HAHAHAHAH

I just fed this to my 10 year old this morning!  The Cinnamon kind.

He said "It tastes funny mom.  Can I have some sugar?"

I gave him a pinch of splenda instead.  I guess I will have to try it.  I like plain old fashioned oatmeal.  It cooks just as fast in the microwave and I can add any spice I like.

I grew up on instant Oatmeal and still have it from time to time.
Usually it's Apple/Cinnamon or Maple/Brown sugar which is also pretty high in sugar. I tried plain for a while but couldn't manage it.
The one problem I've found is that it goes from "soupy" to "cement" very quickly. Might as well come with Dry Wall tape if you let it sit too long.

The weight control stuff is made with artificial sweeteners, and I think it's gross too.

My favorite oatmeal is the Fruit and Cream stuff.  Yes, it has sugar in it, but....it's less processed than the artificial stuff.  It's kind of a toss-up, really.  A lot of sugar's not good for you no, but IMO the artificial stuff is worse.

Hello All,

I love oatmeal, the real oatmeal from the round Quaker box, not the instant or quick cook kind. Easy and quick to make, why they ever needed to create an instant variety is a mystery to me. Add some fresh blueberies, a little honey, and some Silk Soy milk: pure heaven.

Be well.

I made a compromise this morning: one package of the Weight Control Banana Bread flavor and one package of Bananas & Cream. It was okay, but still kind of ... eh. I'll choke my way through this box, though.

Jamie! You still rule! Miss you, kid.

I prefer the regular cooked one myself, but have been buying the quick-cook kind because of the kids. The baked apples is the best one to me and it's also less calorie content than the other flavors.
